Review of The Girl Behind the Mask by Stella Knightley

About The Girl Behind the Mask -

Two passionate stories of love, lust and seduction that will leave you wanting more ...

Hidden Women 1: The Girl Behind The Mask

Leaving the heartache of sexual betrayal behind her in London, historian Sarah Thomson intends to make the most of her research trip to Venice. But she soon finds her attention consumed by mysterious millionaire Marco Donato. Despite their deepening relationship, however, the  handsome playboy persists in playing a secretive game. What exactly is Marco hiding?

The subject of Sarah's research is eighteenth-century Venetian Luciana Giordance. At a time when debauchery is the city's favourite pastime, virginal Luciana is kept out of trouble by a zealous chaperone - until she meets a man who promises to help her escape her restraints. But just what does the worldly stranger want to teach her in return?

This book is brilliantly written exactly in the time differences, as the present time is set in the 21st century but the past time is set in 1753. There is a big gap between the difference times but it was written as if you were there in that time frame and I love a novel that can reach across timezones and places in history without making the readers feel confused or lost; Stella Knightley made it clear and enthralling to read about.

Sarah Thomson is on a research trip to Venice where back in 1753 Luciana Giordano lived. Both these women are astonishingly different from each other. What is normal now would not have been normal back in 1753 and there are many things that were disapproved of in the eyes of your peers. Though both these women are looking for the same thing in the novel; Love. But the questions is; how can you forget about the past and move on into the future?

The chapters are split up into one; in the present time and two; one set in 1753, then it will be repeated in that order of back and forth When Sarah meets Marco, he seems just like another playboy after only one thing. But it isn't just Sarah who has a secrets in her past. Luciana just wants to break free from her life and escape, though when a stranger offers to help her, what do they want in return.

The Girl Behind The Mask has a fifty shades of grey element to it, but has a unique twist with it being set in two different time zones. It has lust, sex, love and everything that comes in between, but it also has a story to follow through the book and which will be added to in the rest of the Hidden Women Series.

If I had to sum up The Girl Behind the Mask in three words they would be:- Unique, Sexy and Passionate. All of these things make the book what it is.
