Roberta likes to collect the letters and postcards she finds in second-hand books. When her father gives her some of her grandmother's belongings, she finds a baffling letter from the grandfather she never knew - dated after he supposedly died in the war.

From reading the blurb Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase I could tell that this was one story that could draw you in just by reading the letter that start off this amazing book. After you read it, you can't help but want to know what happened and the secrets that were hidden that makes this book what it is.
The story is set in two time zones, one being Roberta's which is the present day and Dorothy's which is in the 1930's time period. Both of these women are very unique in their very own ways, Roberta is very independent and knows what she wants yet when she finds letters that belonged to her grandmother, she isn't sure what to believe. This information is new to her but it isn't to her grandmother, Dorothy who lived it, she has kept secrets from her family and now only years later are they unravelling them.
Everyone has their hobbies, Roberta is no different, she collects postcards or letters that date back years after finding them in books or in a suitcase in this case. Having worked in a book store for a while, she is used to finding letters or other written notes that people had written years previously. Though when Roberta father gives her, her grandmothers suitcase, she is in for a even bigger surprise than just a couple of notes, the letter she opens reveals to her that her grandmother did something that she has hidden from everyone, something she is not proud of.
Dorothy is living in the time that surrounded the Second World War, having been married for a couple of years, her married doesn't seem to be working at all anymore. So, she takes to things that she does know, helping two young women who work as land girls with her husband away at war, she is glad of the company. It isn't long before she meets Jan Pietrykowski, he is polish and Dorothy is very taken with him after their first meeting,
Even though Dorothy and Roberta are very different people, they both have their problems. Roberta with her romance relationship which happens to be with a married man, she doesn't where her life is going to go. Then, there is Dorothy who is just trying to live a life that gives her some fulfilment during the war, though things are never as easy as it seems. There is one thing that they both have in common, they are both hiding secrets from those closest to them.
There are many moments in the book that make you want to keep reading just to find out what happens next, it is a very moving story to read with the sadness that both of the women face and the secrets that continue to unravel over the course of the story. It makes you see that not everything is as it seems and sometimes hiding secrets only makes it harder in the end, when everything starts to come to light.
Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase is a book filled with memories, friendships, love, secrets, letters and loveable characters that make you fall deeper into this story with every flick of a new page. If you liked The Help then you will definitely love this wonderfully amazing story that is based upon a true story.
