23 Review Street:
Q&A with Annie Rains

Hi Annie, thank you so much for joining me on 23 Review Street today, it is so great to have you here and to ask you questions about your writing and your books.
Thank you so much for having me! I always love talking about books and romance ;)

I have just started reading your newest book ‘Welcome Home, Cowboy’ and it is so great. How did you come up with the plot and characters?
The characters showed up in book 1, Welcome to Forever. I didn’t know what Julie’s and Lawson’s stories were, but as I wrote their characters in book 1, I knew that they would have a story! Lawson was so easy going and carefree in Welcome to Forever, so as I started to plot his story, I decided to throw a wrench (or a fiery crash) into his life. Everything evolved from that!

Are you working on any more books in the Hero’s Welcome Series?
Yes! Book 3, Welcoming the Bad Boy releases on August 2, 2016. This will be Val and Griffin’s Story, and it’s my personal favorite! And Book 4, Welcome Home for Christmas will release in the beginning of November. This one follows Allison Carmichael and Troy Matthews.

What is your favourite genre to read when you are not writing?
I love contemporary romance, but I also really enjoy romantic suspense. Suspense really holds my attention and keeps me turning the pages. I’d love to try my hand at this genre one day!

What is your favourite book or author?
TOUGH QUESTION!!!! Can I list several favorite authors? I love Kristan Higgins, Jill Shalvis, Nora Roberts, and a new favorite of mine is Laura Kaye! Nora Roberts’s THE WITNESS was really good. I’m not sure it’s my all-time favorite, but it’s definitely a great read!

What writing advice would you give to new or aspiring authors?
Never give up!!! It’s so easy to get discouraged with all the rejection that comes with putting your work out there. I’d advise anyone who wants to be an author to seek out classes and writer’s groups. Surround yourself with like-minded people, whether that be online or at a local author’s group. Finding a critique partner was really helpful for me. I love my critique partner! We keep each other going, encourage each other, and push each other to keep pressing forward!

What does your day in a life of a writer look like?
Well, I still have a day job, so my day starts around 4:15 (or 4:45 if I’m feeling lazy). I devote the first two hours of the morning for writing. After that, my day is rush, rush, rush with my family and day job. Two hours is all I get most days, but it’s enough to allow me to write 2-3 books a year!

If you had to describe your writing in three words, what would they be?
Emotional. Heartfelt. Uplifting.

Thank you so much for talking to me today and for being on 23 Review Street.
Of course! Thanks for much for inviting me!
