'The Shopaholic Series Week' Day 2 - Shopaholic Abroad by Sophie Kinsella

Tuesday, 21 January 2014

For Rebecca Bloomwood, life is peachy. She has a job on morning TV, her bank manager is actually being nice to her, and when it comes to spending money, her new motto is Buy Only What You Need - and she's really (sort of) sticking to it. The icing on the brioche is that she's been offered a chance to work in New York.

New York! The Museum of Modern Art! The Guggenheim! The Metropolitan Opera House! And Becky does mean to go to them all. Honestly. It's just that it seems silly not to check out a few other famous places first. Like Saks. And Bloomingdales. And Barneys. And one of those fantastic sample sales where you can get a Prada dress for $10. Or was it $100? Is Becky too dazzled to care?

I knew as soon as I read Confessions of a Shopaholic, I had to read the next one in the series. I was so hooked on Becky Bloomwood's crazy life and her uniqueness that makes this a perfect read.

Shopaholic Abroad is the second instalment in the Shopaholic Series, featuring Becky Bloomwood and her love of everything fashionable. With her new job on a talk show as their financial adviser, Becky Bloomwood is getting her life together, her relationship with Luke is going great as well.

This book follows the same trend as the first one, Becky is a shopaholic and proud of it, though she has to hide many of her purchases from her family and friends so they don't know about how much she is spending and what she is buying. But other than that life is great for Becky.

Shopaholic Abroad has some really good laugh-out-loud moments that get you enthralled in this amazing book. You can really tell that Luke and Becky are a perfect match for each other, they are both dedicated to their relationship and also their jobs. Luke with his new business adventures and Becky with her shopping addiction and her job on a talk show, which she is determined to be the best at. (Though I can't blame Becky for her addiction, I have the same one though mine is more books than clothes)

This books has a lot of ups and downs with Luke's horrible mother, his new business adventure and Becky not knowing when to stop spending money she doesn't have. Though in the end everything works out right with Luke and Becky stronger than ever and Becky narrowly missing more debt, a simply great read.

If I had to sum this book in three words, they would be Funny, Enthralling and Amazing.

Shopaholic Abroad is another amazing adventure that Becky embarks on that is filled with laughter, one liners and an amazing journey to the big city, that is New York, or if you want to be specific Manhattan.

My favourite quote from Shopaholic Abroad was:-

“It's a big step, moving to a new city, especially a city as extreme as New York. It's not the same as London..."
"I know," I nod. "You have to get your nails done.”
